Need to drop a file off for a friend or client?

Drop.io is a service, They free drops of up to 100 Megabytes. Bigger drops cost a little but work well.

Their service is secure and encrypted and the drop is password protected as well.

You can specify the drop to last 3 days and then it dissapears.

Perfect solution if you need to transfer critical files to your customer.

HP Laserjet 4300: Error 10.00.00 SUPPLIES MEMORY ERROR

HP 4300 Series

The printer is unable to read the
electronic information (e-label) on
the print cartridge so that the
printer can keep track of the page
count for the print cartridge.

  1. Open the top cover, remove the print cartridge, and reinstall it.
  2. Install a new HP print cartridge.
  3. Check the connection between the DC controller PCA
(location J97) and the memory chip on the print cartridge (location J600).
  4. Replace the memory chip cable and contact assembly.
  5. Replace the DC controller PCA.

If you get paper dust between the cartridge contacts and the printer itself, you can get this error too, so clean the little metal tabs on the end of the cartridge.

How to reset the maintenance count on an HP LaserJet 4300

HP Laserjet 4300 Family

If the display panel on your HP LaserJet reads “perform printer maintenance”, “perform user maintenance”, or anything along those lines it means your printer needs a preventative maintenance kit. Failure to do so can mean more down time. To clear the error here are the steps. ( I still recommend installing the kit.)

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. hold down the check mark button as you turn the power on
  3. Continue to hold down the check mark (Select) button until all three LED are illuminated.
  4. Release the check mark (Select) button.
  5. Press the up arrow (Navigation) button until the message New Maintenance Kit appears on the control panel display.
  6. Press the checkmark button once.
  7. A message New Maintenance will appear in the control panel display and the printer will reset.

This is done by the tech after installing a maintenance kit to tell the computer inside your printer that it has been installed.

Bit Defender Anti-Virus Evaluation.

Bit Defender is my anti-virus of choice. I Highly recommend this product and have for over 3 years.

Tested against my virus collection this one scored a 100%.

This product uses the least processing power to perform it’s tasks than any of the other products I reviewed.

I have this product installed on 4 computers personally.

This is possibly my favorite product of the year.

Cradlepoint wireless hotspot

This is on my top ten list for Gadget of the Year. The Cradlepoint PHS300 Personal Hotspot creates a fully portable hotspot using your broadband-enabled cell phone or data card. In English, that means if you have a Sprint or Verizon (or any comparable brand) card that goes in your computer and gives you internet access, you can now share that access to a group of your closest friends and coworkers, and do it while you are on the move. I tested it with my buddy’s data card, and it worked seamlessly. Not only did he not see any slowdown on his side, I was able to get my email, surf the web and generally work as if I had my own card plugged in. Plus, it’s secure. We tested the mobility by taking a drive with our laptops (obviously have to ride in the same car) and the Cradlepoint worked great. Perfect for sharing a connection while on the road (camping or giving a presentation to coworkers).

Kapersky Anti-Virus Evaluation.

I found this software easy to install and use. The interface was clean and worked well.
Tested against my array of viruses, It scored a 99% Effective rating and used less overhead than Norton 360.

My View Crystal

I reviewed the original Myvu about a year ago, and while it was a fun gadget, it had some limitations. The new Myvu Crystal solves the first one by displaying in 640×480 pixels instead of 320×240. Huge difference, and for me, the difference between preferring to just watch on the iPod screen and using the Myvu. The glasses themselves are also less nerdy looking as well. And, while the improved resolution makes me want to use video eyewear a lot more than before, its real value shines when paired with video games. Not only is it more realistic to simulate actual body movements (think any of the golf games, for example), the Wii is just made for something like this in the first place. Racing and flight simulator games are at their best here.

Installing a Raid on a SC420 right now.

Dell Poweredge SC420

Dell Poweredge SC420

I thought I might write some generic instructions that might be helpful if anyone attempts this on their own.

Here are the steps:

  1. With the computer off, mount all hardware ( in this case 2 500 Gigabyte Seagate Sata Drives)
  2. Boot the computer and press F2 to enter the Bios.
  3. under drive controllers, set the RAID to ON.
  4. Esc key and save & exit
  5. Press Ctrl-A on boot to enter the Adaptec Raid Controller Software.
  6. Select the two appropriate drives and then,
  7. Create a RAID array (RAID = Redundant Array of Independent Disks.)
  8. Select Mirrored (Writes to both hard disks at the same time for redundancy)
  9. Select yes, Ok and your raid array will build.
  10. Reboot and insert the Dell System manager disks and install your server software.

Hope this helps any techies listening getting the raid configured and setup correctly.
